JULIA RATHJEN
Julia Rathjen, born 1996. An autodidact abstract artist from Hamburg, Germany. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Italian Studies and is now nearing the completion of her Master's in Romance Literatures, specializing in Italian and French Literary Studies. She previously studied and worked in marketing and advertising and recently spent a semester abroad in Rome, focusing on visual cultural studies. Since 2018, she has also worked as a freelance artist, aiming to create unique experiences for viewers. Her work draws inspiration from everyday life, incorporating and reacting to these influences in innovative ways.
‚I have always experienced the world extremely visual and also very practical. When I paint, it is not important whether I take a piece of cardboard, a brush or my hands. I want to express myself in the fastest way possible. I follow my impulses and my sense of colour, design and harmony. I spend a lot of time in Italy and for me it's a truly magical country from which I get a lot of inspiration, especially from the nature. The fact that each element in nature is unique and will never look the same again - that is my motivation, which I ultimately find in my paintings when I look at them.’
